Pain Management
Pain is a complex experience that extends beyond mere physical sensations. Its impact encompasses functional, emotional, and psychological aspects of life. Depending on the nature of your pain condition, your ability to engage in daily activities might become limited, resulting in a loss of independence. For many, this loss can trigger feelings of depression, anxiety, and irritability. At our advanced pain management center, we hold the belief that addressing pain is not solely about alleviating discomfort, but about enhancing overall quality of life.
With this principle in mind, we offer a comprehensive array of services that emerge from continuous research into the latest and most effective treatments made possible by cutting-edge technological advancements. These treatments cater to both acute and chronic pain conditions. Our team of skilled pain management physicians will conduct a thorough evaluation of your pain-related concerns. Based on this assessment, we will develop a personalized pain management plan from our diverse range of services. This plan aims to provide accurate diagnosis and targeted relief.

Pain Management
Pain is something we all experience at one time or another and the treatment of pain is foundational to the field medicine. Fortunately, most mild pain complaints resolve on their own or can be treated with rest and over the counter pain relievers. If these fail to address the pain, more advanced conservative options like injections are often used. These treatments fall under the broad category of Interventional Pain Management. Interventional Pain Management is a highly specialized field of health care that utilizes minimally invasive procedures to diagnosis and treat painful complaints. At Maxim Health our pain management physicians leverage interventional techniques for both diagnostic purposes (unraveling the root cause of pain), and therapeutic goals (providing long term pain relief). These interventions may also serve as prognostic indicators for our surgical colleagues, helping to plan surgical approaches and predict surgical outcomes. Below we present a selection of interventional options available at our pain management center.

Distinguishing Acute and Chronic Pain
Pain is commonly categorized as either acute or chronic. Acute pain is typically of limited duration and tends to improve over time. In contrast, chronic pain can persist for extended periods, significantly impacting physical, emotional, and mental well-being. Acute pain often results from injury or illness, signaling the body's need for attention. Prescription or over-the-counter medications generally provide relief for most acute pain cases. Chronic pain, on the other hand, can endure unchecked, altering cellular processes and sustaining pain long after the underlying tissues have healed.
Evaluating Pain Level
Pain is deeply subjective, varying from person to person. Gauging pain can be challenging. While some individuals can manage daily tasks despite a certain level of pain, others might find their condition utterly debilitating, confining them to bed rest. The description of pain varies as well. For some pain feels like a dull, throbbing, or stabbing sensation. For others it can manifest as extreme heaviness, burning, or itchiness. Our pain management physicians engage in one-on-one consultations to understand your individual pain experience, considering factors such as duration, intensity, type, source, and location within the body to arrive at an accurate diagnosis.
The Purpose of Pain
Pain, although often misunderstood, serves a crucial purpose. It acts as the body's defense mechanism, alerting you to potential harm. However, severe chronic pain over extended periods can be incapacitating. Through an interdisciplinary approach that combines medical and behavioral strategies, we strive to create personalized treatment plans. Our goal is to empower you to regain control over pain, leading to relief and an improved quality of life. At Maxim Health we offer a range of specialties, surgical and non-surgical procedures, all designed to facilitate your journey towards better well-being.
