Thoracic Minimally Invasive Laminectomy/ Microdiscectomy

Thoracic Minimally Invasive Laminectomy/ Microdiscectomy

Thoracic minimally invasive discectomy is a surgical procedure designed to address disc herniation or other disc-related issues in the thoracic spine, which is the middle portion of the vertebral column. This minimally invasive approach aims to alleviate symptoms such as pain, numbness, or weakness caused by compression of the spinal cord or nerve roots. During the procedure, the surgeon makes small incisions in the back, avoiding the need for a larger, traditional incision. Specialized instruments are used to visualize and access the affected area of the thoracic spine. This approach minimizes disruption to surrounding tissues and muscles.

The surgeon then carefully removes the portion of the herniated or damaged disc that is compressing the spinal cord or nerve roots. In some cases, additional procedures such as a laminotomy (removing a small portion of the vertebral arch) may be performed to create more space and alleviate compression. The minimally invasive nature of this procedure often results in less postoperative pain, a shorter hospital stay, and a quicker recovery compared to traditional open surgery. Additionally, preserving the surrounding tissues may contribute to a faster return to daily activities
